I förra veckan seglade jag 606-SM i Oxelösund med min gode vän Sven Wallin. Resultatmässigt gick det inte särskilt bra men vi lärde oss massor. Tävlingen avgjordes under tre dagar med totalt åtta seglingar i syd till nordvästliga vindar mellan 2 och 8 sekundmeter och viss sjö. 47 båtar kom till start och vi inledde bra med en 19:e plats. Sedan var trenden tyvärr dalande. 19, 43 och 36 första dagen följdes av 27, 32 och 41 andra dagen. Sista dagen satsade vi järnet och lyckades med två diskar på grund av tjuvstart vid svart flagg. Denna serie gav oss en 41:a plats av de 47 startande.
I början hade vi vissa höjdproblem i lätt- till mellanvindsregistret men här tog vi hjälp av Pelle Lindells tips att “nita storen” som han säger på fin göteborgska. Det innebär att skota riktigt hårt med travarvagnen rejält i lovart så att storen stänger akterliket och på så vis omdirigerar mer luft (se tidigare blogentry om De stora vetenskapsmännen). Detta hindrar dock ofta topptelltalen i akterliket från att flyga fritt. Detta går emot de flesta av trimguiderna. De säger att den bör flyga fritt åtminstone 50 procent av tiden. Men det är inte alltid så mycket att bry sig om bekräftade även Björn Österberg från North Sails. Med öl i hand ska sägas. Nita på ni. Men självklart ska man vara försiktig. För mycket nitande kan bromsa rejält. Och om man inte orkar kränga ner båten längre gäller det naturligtvis att twista istället. Gärna med hjälp av att dra i häckstaget.
När vi väl fått riktigt bra båtfart och höjd kunde vi konstatera att det är stor skillnad på att starta i startfält om 25 båtar jämfört med 47. Skillnaden på en bra och en dålig start är enorm. Man måste hela tiden bevaka sin position och marginalerna är små och ens läge förändras blixtsnabbt. Sista dagen satsade vi extra hårt i starterna vilket också visade sig genom två tjuvstarter. Måhända var vi extra synliga för startfartyget då vårt skrov glimmrar i orange. Hursomhelst kostade dessa tjuvstarter naturligtvis ganska många placeringar i totalen.
Vinnare av hela SM blev Pelle Lindell och Björn Lager från Kullaviks Kanot- och Kappseglingsklubb på västkusten. Detta var deras 13:e SM i 606 så segern var onekligen välförtjänt. Extra kul kändes det när jag fick veta att Kullaviks Kanot- och Kappseglingsklubb är 606:ans skapares, Pelle Petterssons, hemmahamn. I övrigt var det jämnt i toppen och Lindell/Lager vann med samma poäng som tvåan, Conny Kjellberg/Olle Jarstad från USS (Uppsala). Men med fler förstaplaceringar.
606 är en fantastiskt kul klass att segla. Båtarna är byggda mellan 1970 och 2008 men ingen fartskillnad märks överhuvudtaget. Seglarna är i alla åldrar och könsfördelningen får nog anses vara relativt god. Lite extra stimulerande kändes det att den nyblivna juniorvärldsmästaren i E-jolle, Josefin Olsson styrde en av båtarna.
