På söndag startar den franska ensamkappseglingen Mini Transat. De 6.5 meter långa Open 650-båtarna seglas från La Rochelle i Frankrike, via Funchal på Madeira, till Salvador de Bahia i Brasilien. En total sträcka om 4200 sjömil, eller 780 svenska motorvägsmil. Team Hoffstedt har just checkat in på hotellrummet. Och fått igång bredbandet. I La Rochelle. Imorrn, lördag, ska jag stryka runt i hamnen och insupa stämningen. På söndag ska jag kolla in starten från ett åskådarfartyg.
85 båtar och lika många seglare deltar i tävlingen. Båtarna delas in i två klasser. Séries och Protos där prototyperna är mer extrema one-off-byggen medan Séries är varvsbyggda båtar med en produktion om minst tio stycken. Protos byggs ofta i kolfiber med svängköl och sticksvärd medan Séries byggs i glasfiber och med fast kölanordning. En Proto får ha ett djupgående om 2 meter medan en Série får sticka max 1,60.
Mini Transat och Open 6,50 är tänkt som en instegsklass till de större franska ensamhavskappseglingarna. Därför är båtarna så pass små och serieklassen är tänkt som en klass där kostnaderna hålls på en rimlig nivå. Självklart kostar det mycket ändå och det finns många historier om folk som bott i sina båtar ett helt år för att ha råd att vara med i tävlingen.
På söndag blir det 85 båtar på startlinjen. 49 i Séries-klassen och 36 i Proto-klassen.

Mini #607 är efterföljaren till Pogo 1, Pogo 2. Byggd av varvet Structures som också bygger Pogo 8,50 och Pogo 40.
Mini #679 är en Proto med svängköl, sticksvärd och byggd i kolfiber.
Mini #736 verkar vara en av de mer extrema Protosarna. I alla fall vad gäller skrovform. Speciell!
