Dessa delas i sin tur in i seriebåtar och prototypbåtar(protos). Seriebåtarna måste ha serieproducerats i minst tio exemplar. Protosarna är mer experimentella och även mer extrema. Överriggade, byggda i kolfiber med svängköl, assymetriska sticksvärd och vattenballast. Många nya innovationer inom seglingssporten har först prövats på Mini-protos innan de senare fått fäste på större båtar som exempelvis Volvo Ocean 70. Ulf seglar en båt av typen Nacira 650 som blir godkänd som seriebåt 2011. Själv har jag en äldre seriebåt av typen Pogo650.
