I princip hela Open60-gänget är konkurrenskraftiga och några har DNF att ta igen från senaste Vendée Globe…
I Ultime seglar Joyon, Covillle och Gavignet i nästan identiska skrov så det är båthantering och vindar som fäller utslaget. Cammas har en aningen kraftfullare och längre tri men också lite mindre erfarenhet av solosegling i den. Guichard i den lite kortare Gitana 11 får inte heller räknas bort då den bör gå bra i lättare vindar och han har seglat mycket solo i den. Mitt tips är att Joyons båt håller längst och Coville samt Cammas leder tills kör sönder (eller vinner…).
Bland 50-fots multi så vill alla slå Escoffier som vunnit det mesta de senaste åren. Några nya uppstickare finns. Håller “Prinsen” sig på rätt köl och håller Actual så har de chans att utmana om vinsten!
Class 40 är för svår att gissa något om men det blir kul att följa Rune Aasberg (Norge) i Solo! Många är duktiga men ofta chansar de för att visa hur duktiga de är inför de hägrande Open60–kontrakten 😉

Franck Cammas snittar just nu 28 knop ombord på Groupama och har mindre än 1000 sjömil kvar. Om han håller ihop båten ser det ut som en säker seger i Catégorie Ultime. Cammas hann runt The Azores High söder om tryckcentrum. Michel Desjoyeaux tog samma väg men fastnade i lätta vindar för nära tryckcentrum. Så i IMOCA 60 var det båtarna som gick norr om högtrycket som drog det längsta stråt. Hittills. 2006 års vinnare av Route du Rhum, Roland Jourdain, leder klassen strax före Armel Le Cléac’h som vann årets upplaga av Solitaire du Figaro.
I Classe 40 ser det bra ut för 2009 år vinnare av Mini Transat, Thomas Ruyant. Han verkar driva båten hårt som vanligt och har just kommit in i den starkare nordosten som norra delen av Classe 40-flottan seglat mot. Ruyant ligger nu 32 sjömil före Minidesignern Samuel Manuard som designat många protos i Classe Mini.
Så här långt ser det ut som att det var rätt beslut att gå norr om The Azores High. Med undantag för Franck Cammas som var så snabb att han hann runt utmed Spaniens kust innan tryckcentrum hann dit.
