Lördag 9:e oktober avgjordes KM på Mälarhöjdens kanotsällskap. Fjåset bjöd på lätta vindar och tre bra seglingar kunde genomföras. Gustav Dahlberg vann solklart efter tre övertygande spikar. Mycket imponerande i den vridande och stråkiga vinden. I ett försök att förstå hemligheten bakom publiceras en intervju med Gustav nedan. Gustav är också den som tagit flest spikar(7) under Kvällskören 2010 där han slutade på en tredjeplats totalt. En farlig utmanare till suveränen Stefan Sundblom nästa säsong.

Jag började med ett par kvällskör i lånebåt säsongen 2007. Hittade klubben efter tips från en gammal seglarkompis. Upplägget och atmosfären är ju magisk!
Kan du berätta lite om din tidigare seglingskarriär? Var och hur har du lärt dig allt?
Vuxit upp på västkusten och seglat en hel del jolle som ung i KKKK och GKSS. Först inom optimist där jag var bland de fem bästa i Sverige mina två sista år (14-15 år) och deltog i två VM. Därefter i 420 och e-jolle mellan 15-21 års ålder och ingick i landslaget men hade inga vansinnigt starka internationella resultat. Jag kan väl generellt säga att seglingen var väldigt stor del av mitt liv upp till 15 år och sedan fanns det andra roliga saker att också fokusera på…
Som seglare mitt i fältet funderar jag ofta på hur du gör för att alltid placera dig i topp. Ser du nåt konkret som du tycker vi lite längre ner i fältet borde tänka på?
1. Jag tycker många startar förvånansvärt dåligt sett utifrån att vi kör harstart. Jag tror att många kan tjäna på att vara mer aggressiva i starterna och fokusera på att komma iväg bra och få fri vind. Bästa tipset är nog då att gå tidigt och att “komma underifrån” för att undvika trassliga grosshandlarlägen. Sedan ska givetvis ingen respekt visas för seglare längre fram i fältet, utan behandla alla lika och segla med stort självförtroende.
2. Reflektera ständigt över kombinationen vind och vrid. Innan du slår ställ dig frågan varför och segla inte planlöst. Antingen söker du mer vind, bättre vinkel mot vinden eller att positionera dig på något särskilt sätt gentemot övriga båtar.
3. Segling är en koncentrationssport och du ska vara slut i huvudet när du sitter i bastun. Små tekniska och taktiska misstag kan vara kostsamma och sker ofta pga bristande koncentration.
4. Planera dina rundningssituationer väl, i synnerhet viktigt när du ligger längre ner i fältet. Börja positionera dig tidigt för att få plats på många båtar. Ta sedan ut svängen i rundningen för att få god startfart på kryssen.
5. Håll fart i båten genom bra trim, teknik samt koll på tell tails. På undanvinden ska du söka “tryck i seglet” och då behöver du ofta skära aningens, i synnerhet i början på undanvinden brukar man tjäna på detta för att också få fri vind.
Jag tycker ofta du ser ut att ha ganska lös cunningham på kryssen jämfört med många andra. Du brukar alltid ha lite speed-wrinkles. Är det snabbt :)?
Jag tror inte jag är särskilt vass ännu på att hitta optimala trimmet. Jag brukar köra med lite speed-wrinkles för jag gillar buket som fås… dock inte säker på om detta är rätt.
Hur tänker du i övrigt vad gäller trim en typisk Fjåsetdag med stråkaktig vind mellan 1 och 4 sekundmeter?
- Kryssen: Hård kick, lös cunningham, hyfsat draget uthal och skotat block i block.
- Undanvinden: Släpper på kicken så att seglet inte “stänger” och kickar lite extra om jag skär. Om jag hade kunnat reglera uthalet i båten skulle jag släppa på det för att skapa extra bukning.
- När det är lättvind (<3 m/s) tror jag det är viktigt att inte buka seglet för mkt på kryssen och i mellanvind (3-7 m/s) kan seglet bukas ganska mkt.

Hur du sedan ska fokusera/prioritera beror sedan givetvis på hur stark/svag du är på de olika delarna.
Hur ser du på pumpning och kroppsrörelser i båten?
Det är viktigt att vi hjälps åt att alla håller sig efter reglerna. Lite tillrop på sjön vid pumpning/kroppsrörelser tror jag vi kommer långt med. Det händer att jag (och andra) använder kroppen lite mkt vid pressade situationer (exv. tighta situationer i starten) och jag tror faktiskt att det i vissa lägen är kontraproduktivt och mer ett symtom på stress…
Vad gör du om du upptäcker att du har en båt i lä som du kommer köra på om du faller för att kunna starta bakom motorbåten/haren? (Grosshandlarens dilemma).
Bara en sak att göra; Stanna upp båten genom att backa seglet mot vinden och invänta haren. Men viktigare ändå såklart… se till att inte hamna i situationen genom att “komma underifrån” och ha bra koll på harens fart och höjd.
Hur ser dina seglarplaner ut för nästa säsong?
Jag är otroligt taggad inför nästa säsong, och då inte minst kvällskören. Legenden Stefan Sundblom behöver få sig en ordentlig match. Främsta verktygen blir att införskaffa nyare båt, planera arbetet preussiskt efter kvällskören så att inga stora startfält missas samt att bli lite mer riskavert för att undvika bottennapp. Sedan måste jag vårda min rygg (precis fått diskbråck) så att jag håller hela säsongen.
