Fransmännen älskar ju att kappsegla solo i vindens riktning med båtar som endast begränsas av en box som stimulerar nytänkande och experiment med få regelbegränsningar. Classe Mini är instegsklassen som blivit mer och mer professionell men från början var tänkt för att den “vanliga medborgaren/äventyraren” skulle ha råd att testa sina vingar solo till havs. Huvudattraktionen har sedan 1977 varit tävlingen Mini Transat som seglas solo över Atlanten.
Boxen
Classe Mini består av två klasser/boxar kallade serie och proto. Den mest experimentella är proto som tillåter kolfiber, svängköl och vattenballast. Serieboxen är lite mer modest för att hålla nere kostnaderna och båtarna måste vara varvsbyggda i minst tio exemplar. Serieboxen är 6,50 lång, 1,60 djup, 11,00 meter över havet och en genomsnittlig fribordhöjd på 0,8 meter. Protoboxen är lika lång men 2,00 djup, 12,00 meter över havet och genomsnittliga fribord om 0,75 meter. Utöver detta tillkommer förstås en hel del säkerhetsföreskrifter bland annat gällande rätande moment, överbyggnadsvolym, flytmaterial, crash box och nödutgång.
Minis

Pogon är kraftigare dimensionerad en de andra seriebåtarna med rejäla tvärgående skott och mer glasfiber i skrovet. Detta gör henne stryktålig och en Pogo vill alltid ha mer segel. Det är besättningen som sätter gränsen. Under Mini Transat 1999 snurrade en Pogo 360 grader 4 gånger utan att tappa riggen. I Sverige finns det fyra stycken Pogo 1:
- Wigvam(#261) i Motala.
- Alizé II(#300) på Bullandö i Stockholm.
- UBU(#366) på Bullandö i Stockholm.
- Balans(#401) kring Långedrag i Göteborg.

Hur är hon att segla?
Pogon är helt underbar att segla. Hon känns lätt med många hästkrafter och väldigt styv. Minis är byggda för havet och inte skärgården. Då de är optimerade för att segla så snabbt som möjligt över Atlanten, inom boxen, kan det bli väldigt mycket att stå i inomskärs. Storbommen går precis över vinschen på rufftaket och ända bak till akterspegeln. Spinnakern ligger några decimeter över vattenytan och det blir mycket tamp i den breda men korta sittbrunnen. Det är kanske ingen riktig day cruiser men sjukt kul segling! Det bästa är 10 sekundmeter snett bakifrån och lite havssjö att surfa i. Då är det som att skära smör i en stekpanna och det är ingenting mer än bettet i rodren som tyder på att båten är i vattnet. Det känns som att flyga eller åka den finaste pudersnö.
