On 23 July 2015, the Supreme Court of South Korea ruled that the agreements on criminal representation expenses under Article 103 of South Korea`s Civil Law are contrary to public order.  The judgment was unanimous and four judges ruled separately.  The decision sparked widespread outcry from criminal defense lawyers, particularly former judges and prosecutors, who were able to collect very high success fees due to clients` belief that their ties could help them win the case.  As you can see, contingency fees are a one-time agreement that has both advantages and disadvantages.
